2025 is packed with highly anticipated fantasy films, from blockbuster franchises to bold original stories.

While Universal’s The Wolf Man reboot (directed by Saw co-creator Leigh Whannell) stumbled in January, the rest of the year promises thrilling adventures. Spring brings Disney’s live-action Snow White (March), The Minecraft Movie (April), and A Bold and Dazzling Journey (May). Summer heats up with How to Train Your Dragon’s live-action remake, followed by Maggie Gyllenhaal’s The Bride of Frankenstein, sequels like Mortal Kombat 2, Wicked: Part Two, and Avatar 3.

1. The Witcher: Siren of the Deep (February 11, 2025)

While Netflix’s The Witcher Season 4’s release remains uncertain, this animated spin-off arrived in February. Notably, neither Henry Cavill (original Geralt) nor Liam Hemsworth (his replacement) voices the White Wolf—instead, Doug Cockle reprises his role from CD Projekt Red’s games.

Set between The Witcher Season 1’s Episodes 5 and 6, the film adapts A Little Sacrifice from Andrzej Sapkowski’s Sword of Destiny. Anya Chalotra (Yennefer) and Joey Batey (Jaskier) return to voice their characters.

2. The Lost Lands (March 7, 2025)

Starring Dave Bautista (Dune 2) and Milla Jovovich (Resident Evil), this film adapts George R.R. Martin’s 1982 short story In the Lost Lands. Jovovich plays Gray Alys, a shape-shifting witch sent on a deadly quest, aided by Bautista’s hunter. Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil), it blends post-apocalyptic and Western vibes.

3. Snow White (March 21, 2025)

Disney’s live-action remake stars Rachel Zegler (The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes) as Snow White and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman) as the Evil Queen. While classic songs like Heigh-Ho remain, new tracks by La La Land’s Pasek and Paul (Aladdin 2019) will debut.

Plagued by delays and a rumored $270M budget, this reimagining faces sky-high expectations.

4. The Minecraft Movie (April 4, 2025)

A decade in development, this adaptation follows four misfit players trapped in Minecraft’s blocky world. Jason Momoa (Dune), Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple), and Jack Black (Borderlands) lead an all-star cast. Early trailers promise an epic, open-world adventure.

5. Ocki’s Odyssey (April 25, 2025)

A24’s whimsical fantasy stars Helena Zegel (The Wilds), Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things), and Willem Dafoe. When a girl discovers a mythical creature named Ocki, she defies her monster-hunting father to return it home. Director Isaiah Saxon’s debut blends stunning visuals with intimate storytelling.

6. How to Train Your Dragon (June 13, 2025)

DreamWorks’ live-action remake stars Mason Thames (The Black Phone) as Hiccup, with Gerard Butler reprising Stoick. The trailer’s shot-for-shot recreations of the 2010 animated hit divided fans—some praised its fidelity, others called it lazy. Audiences will judge in June.

7. A Bold and Dazzling Journey (September 19, 2025)

Details are scarce, but Margot Robbie’s (Barbie) first post-Oppenheimer project teams her with Colin Farrell in a “romantic fantasy” about self-discovery. Directed by Kogonada (After Yang), this awards-season contender boasts a stellar cast.

8. Mortal Kombat 2 (October 24, 2025)

James Wan’s R-rated reboot sequel brings back Lewis Tan, Jessica McNamee, and Hiroyuki Sanada, adding Karl Urban as fan-favorite Johnny Cage. Expect hyper-violent fights true to the game’s legacy.

9. Wicked: Part Two (November 21, 2025)

The Wizard of Oz prequel’s second half concludes Elphaba’s (Cynthia Erivo) story after Part One’s record-breaking debut. With the Broadway musical’s Act II adapted, expect show-stopping numbers and emotional payoffs.

10. Avatar: The Tulkun Rider (December 19, 2025)

James Cameron’s Avatar 3 delves deeper into Pandora, introducing the fiery “Ash People” tribe. Sam Worthington’s Jake Sully continues defending his Na’vi family against human colonizers. Pioneering underwater tech (perfected for The Way of Water) will again push cinematic boundaries.
